Michael Jackson's success was beyond translation
From Sydney to Hong Kong, China to Los Angeles, fans, officials and fellow entertainers spoke of their shock and sadness. His music echoed from cafes and car speakers, and everyone from national leaders on down seemed to weigh in.
President Hugo Chávez of Venezuela called the star’s death “lamentable news,” though he criticized the media for giving it so much attention. The former president of South Korea Kim Dae-jung, who had met Mr. Jackson, said: “We lost a hero of the world.”
In Paris, fans held a ceremony in his honor in front of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame Friday night and planned a memorial moonwalk at the Eiffel Tower for Sunday.
Huge crowds gathered in the shadow of Notre-Dame, linking hands and chanting Mr. Jackson’s name, cheering and sometimes breaking into song. Some held flags adorned with images of Mr. Jackson, and others held up signs.

This night remains/ Auth h nuxta menei
every night I go out to get drowned,in the stars
or the edge of the abyss
something I chase, like a castaway
years, bed sheets, convert to cigarettes and then become extinquished
this night remains forever frozen
two souls who couldnt find shelter
came in the world as strangers and hopeless
to live an earthly love
I got lost a night too
ocean is the voice of Kazatzidis
stars were falling in the mud, black bully
is the weather and black snake
the heart was teling me, get a smell
how the oil burns and live the life
Panta o ilios tha vgainei/ The sun will always rise - Xaroula Alexiou
I will go again, I know the story
I unfold one more truth
I can’t take this small feeling in my heart anymore.
I leave the town, streets are open for me
I wait to see what will happen
I open my soul
I only carry with me some light and water for the ride
And as I go away from you… I know…
The sun will always rise
And he won’t care if I will make it
Or if you will ever come to find me
I have no thoughts in my head
I have no solutions, everything is open
I unfold one more truth
Life is not another routine
Streets are running and you are in frond of me
New bridges my heart crosses
I look for a limit to open in the light
Our tracks will fade away … anyway…
Για το καλό μου/ For my own good - Miliokas
I observed my neighborhood turn to construction sites
for my blessing
I observed the trees i used to climb down in pieces
on a truck loaded my dreams
for my blessing
I felt the teacher discipline with passion
I observed my hands swell from beating
my nerves bit by bit to shatter
with kindness and love to bash me
For my blessing, for my blessing
until my mind couldn't take anymore
it start working from the opposite direction
and I am in chamber 9 for my blessing
in tranquility myself to uncover
I observed stealing a bite for my bite
clothes to make from my old garments
for my blessing
I observed my mother crying in dismay
I observed my old man immigrant becoming
for my blessing
I observed my pals
I observed them wanting me to be cut off from you
I observed at dawn to toss me at the precinct
to dodge the cell I have to state the poem
For my blessing, for my blessing
until my mind couldn't take anymore
it start working from the opposite direction
and I am in chamber 9 for my blessing
in tranquility myself to find
For my blessing, for my blessing
body and mind became numb
injections, pill, electroshocks for my blessing
today my neighbor was found dead
and I fight myself to find
I have a knife hidden for my blessing
είδα τα χÎÏια μου Ï€ÏησμÎνα από το ξÏλο

Na koimithoume agkalia ((I want) to sleep in your arms) - Vassilis Papakonstantinou
I counted the stars again, yet some are missing
Only your hands/arms have not deserted me
I like to see your hair wet under the rain
And the moon moving up and down on your body
All the moons upon your body travelling
(I want) to sleep in your arms to mix our dreams together
And our heart gives the rhythm in our kisses’ music
(I want) to sleep in your arms to mix our dreams together
For a whole life, this night to be ours
Your kisses on my neck look like miracles
Like roses blossoming at dawn
I threw my nets in your deep blue eyes
On your shores I want to spend my sleepless nights.
Avra (gentle breeze) - Panagopoulos
and with your beautiful, last enduring smile
Good morning gorgeous I will tell and then be gone, I ll vanish
and you may only see me again in your illusions
Cause I am blowing wind, through in the city alleys
and makes the shut windows squeaking
Cause I am the nighttime wind, breath spotless animated
that makes the sagging leaves rattling
I walk up on the mountain and then collapse under the cliff
balancing between apogees and valleys
and I carry in the silence an unsubmitted cry
and an untold hope that you have hidden.
cause i am the blowing wind...

Microsoft Surface Makes a Good First Impression
Forget everything you know about Microsoft Surface as it is no longer an expensive coffee table with a touch screen that you could have expected to see in hotel lobbies. Microsoft Surface is now a 10.6” consumer tablet – much like the iPad – and it runs on Windows 8.
Microsoft Surface – A Windows 8 Tablet
The Microsoft Hardware unit has so far limited itself to designing keyboards, mice, and other computer accessories but this is probably the first time that they have designed a consumer computer tablet in-house. The build quality of existing Microsoft hardware is top-notch and if these press photos are any indication, the new “Post PC” device should be no different.
The details are too thin to compare this Windows 8 tablet with the iPads and the Galaxy Tabs but few things stand out.
Unique features
The Surface tablet runs on Windows 8 and hence you should be able to use any of your existing software on the tablet.
The included USB port will help you connect devices – like the external hard drives, USB microphones, digital cameras, or USB modems – without requiring “special” accessories. The touch cover (image) doubles as a keyboard with a built-in track pad.
Pen Input for Handwriting
The tablet editions of previous versions of Windows had excellent handwriting recognition capabilities. The Surface Tablet ships with a pen and features “palm block” meaning when the pen tip is touching the screen, it would ignore the touch of the palm and the fingers. Surface could turn out to be a great writing device albeit less heavy.
Availability
Microsoft says that Surface would be made available around the same time as Windows 8 so the release date is likely to be October or November this year. The units will initially be sold only in the Microsoft Stores in U.S. and there’s no word on pricing yet.

How much will Microsoft Surface cost?
In case you have missed the live coverage, here’s a video recording of the Microsoft event where Steve Ballmer and co unveiled the new Microsoft Surface tablet. A downloadable version of the keynote is available at microsoft.com.

How much wil Surface cost?
Microsoft says that the new Windows 8 tablets will ship around the same time as Windows 8 but the big question in everyone’s mind is how much will this device cost?
Steve Sinofsky made the following remark (around the 43:30 mark) on pricing:
Microsoft Surface with Windows RT will be available in both 32 GB and 64 GB model and will be priced like comparable tablets that are based on ARM.
Microsoft Surface with Windows 8 Professional will come in 64 GB and 128 GB storage models and will have a retail price comparable with competitive Ultrabook class PCs.
It looks like Microsoft will showcase the Windows RT based Surface tablet as an alternative to the iPad (the “comparable tablet”) while the Surface Pro running Windows 8 could be seen as a replacement for high-end laptops (or the “comparable Ultrabooks”).
Ultrabooks and Tablets – The Current Scene
The iPad costs $500 for the 16 GB version while the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the ASUS Transformer, both 10.1″ Android tablets, are priced at around $400 each. Surface will probably target this segment and could carry a similar price tag.
Speaking of Ultrabook PCs, Dell XPS 13 and HP Envy Spectre XT, both 13″ Ultrabooks, start at $1000 while the Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook is currently available for $800. The 13″ Toshiba Portege Ultrabook is priced at $900.
These prices could obviously change in the coming months but it looks like the Surface Pro tablets could also be in the same $900-$1000 range.

The World’s Most Social Places
Facebook has close to a billion members, or about 14% of the world’s population, and thus they probably know a thing or two about what the world likes to do, the places we frequent and so on.
The social networking site today released a list of the most “social” landmarks in the world or places where the maximum number of Facebook check-ins have happened so far (since August 2010).
Sports stadium and public areas like parks were found to be the most “social” places as per the data.
Amusement parks like Johannesburg’s Gold Reef City, Moscow’s Gorky Park, Copenhagen’s Tivoli Gardens and Seoul’s Lotte World were among the top 10 places to check-in.
Cities with warmer climates had more check-ins to outdoors spots, like St. Kilda Beach in Melbourne and the Wynyard Quarter wharf in Auckland, while colder climes had more activity in concert halls or bars. Six of Moscow’s 10 most popular slots belong to bars and clubs.
See detailed analysis on newsroom.fb.com. Facebook says that check-ins data from airports and stations were excluded from the analysis.
